Easter

Hello beautiful people,

I hope you are enjoying/have enjoyed the break, not the break from class, but the break in general. I hope that the break from class made you all extremely sad and not knowing what to do with yourselves! But I'm sure you managed.

I had a lovely trip to London, partly because of the friends I saw and partly because of the shopping but mostly because the weather was much better than here! I actually got sunburnt on the Sunday afternoon, at a BBQ!

So I was thinking about organizing a quiz, to see how much we have learnt so far in the course, but I don't know how popular this idea would be...

I will tell you a little anecdote from my trip in London, I don't know if you will find it funny or boring or silly. There was a man on the tube who, when we were stopped in a station, found a hat in the seat next to him. As a man who had been sitting there had just got off, he picked up the hat and ran to the door saying (in a slightly raised voice but not a shout) "excuse me, sorry, is this yours?". Well the hat didn't belong to that man so it was forgotten, but I had a little giggle on the inside that English people, even when there is some urgency (e.g. the train leaving) still have time for good manners (excuse me) and, of course, to apologise! What was he sorry for??

Also, our lovely new student Miriam now has a blog and I am the first follower! But she needs more otherwise she may get lonely in cyberspace. The address is

so have a look and please tell her more about yourselves. I like the idea of the blog as 2hrs a week is not very long I don't think.

    Reading again the text that Felicity bring us last day, and thinking and thinking about the sentence “tie a Yellow Ribbon round the old oak tree”, I found in the back of my mind, that this sentence belonged to a very famous song….a kind of Folk Song…

    I repeat, and repeat, and repeat it and finally I was able to sing the song in its Spanish translation too.

    I don’t’ know how no one at class could remember it…
    It was very , but very famous, when I was a girl….then I realized that I was a girl long time ago….when all the people sang these song….( along the sixties or may be at the beginning of the seventies) you haven’t still born….My God how old am I !!!!!, but I can remember too a king of film with the tree full of yellow ribbons flying in the wind, when the bus passed….
    Then at home I looking for it at the Google….and I found it of course, and there were a lot of entrances about it….
    The was composed by Tony Orlando and Dawn, but it was sang by a lot of singers and complexes….
    And if you enter in You Tube, it is possible to head the music too.
    I am sure that if you heard the music someone of your will remember it.
    It is a beautiful song, very romantic, and for this I copy here the letter for you to read.
    In one of the entrances there is the literal translation too ,but the literal translation is impossible to sing , the Spanish translation to sing was something like “ pon alrededor del viejo roble aquel una cinta si tu pensante en mi….”

    Hello everyone,

    I have just heard this song into youtube...and to be honest, i have never heard it before :(
    but it is simply nice!

    By the way, I would like to make a general question about songs and lyrics, i want to know your opinions please.
    Why is so difficult to understand what a song says? (in some cases)
    For example, i love the songs of Coldplay but i have difficulties to "get" all the words they say/sing. Once i read the liyrics it is easier, but at the beginning...

    I have the same problem (as Miquel said one day) to understand the headlines of the newspapers.

    I have a similar "problem" with all of my english speakers friends, for example i can understand almost everything they say or write but when i try to understand a tv program or a radio program i have serious problems. Why is this?

    Could be a lack of lexical words? a lack of getting used to do it?
